Who Knew That Getting On the Wrong Train Could Lead to Such an Incredible Adventure?

Visiting Zurich, Switzerland was literally a happy accident. I ended up on the wrong train and traveled hours away from Geneva, where I was meant to be visiting. Other than the extremely high train fair, there was nothing about this oopsie that didn’t turn out to be a win. Zurich is even more incredible than I ever imagined it would have been. I loved Geneva, but something about the Germanic influence made this part of Switzerland even more magical - or maybe it was just all the fairy lights hanging from every building.

One of my favorite travel past-times is to visit universities in other places. I love the atmosphere of a campus - a perfect combination of excitement and study. The University of Zurich is one of the most prestigious colleges in the world, and when I discovered that it was within walking distance of the city center, I knew I absolutely had to visit.

Even the food is more beautiful in Switzerland. I honestly feel like all I did was eat then entire time I was there - even with the astronomical prices of food.

So much bread… I think it’s a thing in Switzerland to walk around eating baguettes of bread. I saw so many people doing it that by the end of the trip I had to see what the fuss was all about, so I got one for the road.

And I will never forget the architecture. I’ve always had a thing for pretty cities, but Zurich took pretty to a new, and sometimes literal level. Every which way you looked, you were delighted with colorful, intricate buildings that reminded you of what glorious country you’re in.

And even better, when I was there, it was the holiday season, and Switzerland goes all out with the decorating.

Every corner you turned down, there was something distinctively Swiss to explore.

I honestly can’t say it enough - I loved my time in Zurich. While all of what I did was wander, the city delighted my senses, from top to bottom.

My day in Zurich made me so wish that I had booked a trip there to begin with. It has been a dream of mine to visit Switzerland since I was a young girl and I couldn’t be more excited that my life-long dream came true in such a big way. This was one of those instances when the phrase “everything happens for a reason” really hits home. Who knew that getting on the wrong train could lead to such an incredible adventure?
