Blog On

I, like many millennials out there, have my own website. Partially for exposure when it comes to applications and networking, partially because it gives me a creative outlet to write and design, and partially just for vanity. I mean, I'm only human.

I also blog on this site. I blog for my friends and family to keep up with my musings. I blog to highlight my writing skills. I blog for myself - to get things off my chest and out into the universe where they can be set free from the cage of my mind.

I loved building this site from the ground up - not once, but three times. I literally #startedfromthebottomnowimhere. It first began as a class assignment to create a Wordpress.com site and publish our assignments live for the world (and perhaps more realistically, our professors) to see. That's when I really realized I had a passion for writing. I took that passion along for the ride with me when I moved abroad, not once, but both times. I documented my every move for my friends and family to see what fun I was having, and so I was able to document my experiences to go back and reminisce on in the future.

From there, I moved my site to Wix.com for 2 great years. I moved for a change of scenery and because I wanted to build the site out more as a personal site with things about my life outside of my writing. It took me days to move all of my content over, but I loved tinkering in the back end of the software, and the final result, so much that I left it there for quite some time.

Just this year I decided to take my writing more seriously. I purchased my domain - espressomyself.me, which I thought was cute and witty, don’t you? And with that, I moved my site (hopefully for the last time) to Squarespace.com. So far, I am totally obsessed with this new platform! It gives me just enough freedom to customize the things that I want to, but keeps my pages looking fresh, crisp, and professional totally effortlessly. Not to mention that it has to be the easiest of all of the three platforms to use, for me at least. It even comes with a handy app so I can publish on the go. #theresanappforthat With Squarespace, I truly look forward to publishing my thoughts, and that’s the most important aspect of all, if you ask me.

I work in website management for my day job, too, and I have to say that having spent a lot of time on the back end of websites - Wordpress, Weebly, Dealer.com, and more - I am a big fan of website management and creation. Maybe someday I’ll learn to code - and then I’ll be truly un-stoppable.

For now, I absolutely love my blog and I've loved every second of managing it, changing it up, watching it grow since the beginning, and just recently, giving it a total facelift. (I hope you like my new aesthetic). My site has changed a ton over the years and evolves constantly as I do - which is what I love most because it really does feel like an online flection of me. It’s just me, “espresso-ing myself,” get it?

And by the way, here's the last two versions on Wix, just in case you were wondering:

I have to say that every site, blog or not, serves a purpose and with that, every platform comes with challenges and amazing features. If you haven't considered making a personal website or blog before, I'd highly encourage anyone to do so. Above all else, with great hosts like Wordpress, Wix, and Squarespace, it's a lot of damn fun.

Keep on keepin' on folks.
